Or are you an organisation looking to support your mid to later-life leaders?

An experienced mentor, thinking partner, trusted advisor and connector can make all the difference – this is where Wise Sherpa comes in.

With substantial experience of mid to later life issues (professional and personal), we work with purpose led and impact focused leaders (and organisations) helping them to navigate the next steps in their journey successfully. Our areas of expertise include working with leaders exploring, identifying and establishing:

  • Impact, legacy focused encores
  • Entrepreneurial aspirations (incl growing and scaling businesses)
  • Portfolio or plural careers
  • Retraining
  • New ways of working including consulting and interim

Wise Sherpa also has experience designing and facilitating sustainable, scalable programmes with organisations focused on supporting leaders in mid to later-life transitions into successful encores.

This should be an exciting time in a professional’s life but it is often accompanied by feelings of doubt, fear and overwhelm. We’ve trod this path and have much insight and assistance to offer. Our work is reflected in our book – From Work Life to New Life – rewriting the rules of retirement for smart professionals.

How does Mentoring work?

You and your mentor have an initial meeting, this can be virtual or in person to decide if you have the right “chemistry” to work together. If you both agree you want to work together, then you will meet either virtually or in person on a regular basis. Mentoring is a relationship designed to build confidence and support the mentee, so that they are able to exercise greater agency in their own development, life and work. The mentor will share insights and knowledge to help the mentee based on their learning and experiences. A good mentor should also be able to signpost and link mentees into key networks, eco-systems etc that will also
help accelerate the mentees journey.

How long would the Mentor/Mentee work together?

Typically, it is a six to twelve-month commitment as this is a reasonable time frame in which to see strong and sustainable results. Mentoring is not a “quick fix” solution. There are clients who have worked with us for a number of years making continuous improvements and others who meet their specific goals in just six months.

What’s the Mentor’s responsibility?

In each interaction, the mentor should act with integrity, sincerity and confidentiality. The mentor needs to be fully present for each interaction setting aside all other distractions creating a safe space with support and encouragement to explore and take appropriate risks. If the mentor cannot provide appropriate assistance, they should
refer you to a range of resources.

What’s my responsibility as the Mentee?

Mentees need to be open and committed to action and self-development; ready to explore what they are doing and not doing and what decisions and changes they may need to make in order to move forward.

How is Mentoring different from therapy or counselling?

Mentoring focuses on looking forward to the future. Therapy and counselling largely focus on your history and analysing how you got to your present state. Therapists and counsellors often ask question starting with why – mentors usually ask questions starting with what.

Can you guarantee Mentoring works?

Unfortunately, you can’t. Mentoring is designed to make the mentee more successful and ultimately, only you as the mentee can guarantee that you will do what it takes to make this happen. If you as mentee don’t commit to the work, you won’t see the same levels of progress.

How much does Mentoring cost?

The key question for you as a prospective mentee, is how much do you value the service? Price should not be used as an excuse to not to go for it. If you are interested and committed to developing yourself and your business and have a budget in mind, please contact us to discuss how we can help you further as we would be very interested in exploring working together.
